Become an intern at Oxfam Denmark

Oxfam Denmark has an internship program that allows students to spend between 3 and 6 months at Oxfam Denmark's office. The purpose of the internship program is to create an exchange of knowledge and experience between Danish students and employees at Oxfam Denmark.

Students often possess theoretical knowledge that can be of great use to the organization. At the same time, as a student, you will have a unique opportunity to test your knowledge in practice and gain a better understanding of development issues and work.

The internship positions are advertised twice a year in March/April and September.

Location

The internship will be located at our office in central Copenhagen.

Internship assignments

An internship assignment may consist of a task that has been defined specifically for the intern. For example, conducting an analysis, collecting documentation on a particular topic, developing and producing teaching material, or making an evaluation. In addition, there may be several ad hoc tasks that also provide valuable practice.

The internships could be relevant for students from many different fields of study – for example: communication, development studies, anthropology, political science, agriculture, public administration, gender issues, pedagogy, educational sciences, economics, or commerce.

At Oxfam Denmark, you will be assigned a department and a contact person who will offer advice and assistance throughout the internship. However, it is not possible for Oxfam Denmark to offer our interns any kind of financial support – apart from free, vegetarian lunch.

Requirements for the intern

Interns must be Master students, having completed their Bachelor's degree or similar. In some cases, students who have not yet completed their Bachelor's degree are accepted if the applicant has experience/competencies that can otherwise compensate for this.

Interns must be resident in Denmark or be students at a Danish university.

Applications

  • Application for one of the advertised internships must contain the application itself, which describes your qualifications in relation to the internship assignment and your ideas for how the internship assignment can be solved. In addition, the application must contain your CV and any other relevant documentation.

  • The application must be written in Danish.

  • Applications for internship positions are sent via Oxfam Denmark's recruitment system, which we link to in the internship advertisements.

Selection of trainees

If you are interested in becoming an intern with us, you must upload your application via Oxfam Denmark's recruitment system. The individual internship teams will screen the candidates and invite for an interview at our office. The intern is selected based on the interview.

Preparation of the internship

Once the intern has been selected, an internship agreement is prepared and signed by Oxfam Denmark and the intern.

Some interns may want to use their internship experience as the basis for their thesis. It is a good idea to make clear boundaries between the work as an intern and the thesis work. If an intern plans to work a lot on their thesis, this work may be postponed until after the internship has ended.

The internship details

Each intern has a contact person in the department offering the specific internship. The contact person is responsible for the professional and practical communication with the intern during the traineeship.

It is important to align the expectations of both the intern and the project - the internship timeframe, the working relationships, and to what extent the intern will need support.

In general, the intern should be able to work independently and scientifically, while the office/project will support practical issues. It is recommended that the intern, the contact person and others, if relevant, meet on a regular basis during the internship. In general, there will be lots of opportunities to have an interesting theoretical/professional exchange between the intern and the employees of the project/office.

As a rule, the intern produces a written report for the office/project. In addition, it is recommended that the intern makes an oral presentation of their work at a meeting before the internship ends.
