Policy brief on private climate adaptation

West Africa is a climate hotspot and already now, climate change keeps millions trapped in poverty. The climate adaptation finance promised by rich countries is too little and way too late. Therefore, there is an urgent need to involve the private sector to provide climate adaptation. But will adaptation products from private companies reach the region’s most vulnerable?

In the last week of January 2017, Oxfam IBIS and six West African civil society organisations convened in Accra, Ghana to discuss experiences and pros and cons of private climate adaptation products. Over this week, the organisations produced this policy paper using the Book Sprint method which allows for drafting, editing and publishing of a complete product in five full days.

The outcome reflects the team's work rather than the personal opinions of the participants and their organisations. The paper is part of the West Africa Dialogue on Private Climate Financing Project that is managed by Oxfam IBIS and funded by the Civil Society in Development (CISU) in Denmark.
